Byzantine ruins
The Byzantine ruins are called "Grecìa". This settlement is located in the lower part of Simeri and represents the most ancient inhabited nucleus of the town. The ruins could refer to a Byzantine foundation of the village which was abandoned due to earthquakes that struck this region between the 6th and 7th-century. This settlement was also very populous, with at least five churches, partly visible today along with the remaining ruins of numerous houses.
